LPN to RN Scholarship Program

Description:

This Scholarship Award may be used toward expenses (tuition and books) for courses required for completion of the degree. This scholarship allows Licensed Practical Nurses to pursue a degree at Northern Virginia Community College.

Deadline:

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.

Criteria:

• Students must already be accepted into the LPN to RN Program at Northern Virginia Community College and have their prerequisites completed.
• Students must agree to fulfill the employment obligation to Virginia Hospital Center after passing state licensure. The obligation is one year for each year of scholarship in the Division of Patient Care Services.
• Students must show evidence of a 3.0 Grade Point Average (applicants must submit academic transcripts each semester) for ongoing scholarship funds.
• An interview with the Scholarship Committee.
• Virginia Hospital Center employees may not use tuition reimbursement and scholarship awards in the same year.

Application Process:

• Complete an online application.
• Submit resume and two letters of recommendation: one from a current or former employer, and one from a faculty advisor.
• Submit an official transcript of grade point average.
• A scholarship committee will review the application.
• Scholarships will be awarded based on the merits of the application and the funds available.
• All paperwork should be submitted to Nursing Recruitment.

Conditions:

• Employment at Virginia Hospital Center should begin at the first available new graduate program following graduation.
• Employment will be offered based on positions available at the time of the student's graduation. If there are no positions available, or if the Hospital is unable to offer a position, the obligation to the Hospital will be considered satisfied. The money awarded would not have to be repaid.
• The scholarship recipient must take licensing exam at the first available date following graduation.
• Scholarship recipients who do not fulfill their commitment to be employed, or do not complete their academic program are required to repay scholarship monies in full within three months of graduation, or withdraw from the program.
